About
Born in Eskisehir, Ilke Arseven grew up in Ankara before earning a degree in International Trade and later completing a master's degree in Political Science at Galatasaray University. She has worked in various companies in Istanbul for over twenty years. During her university years, a deep passion for the arts led her to attend courses at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting.
Arseven's artistic journey began early, winning 3rd place on High School Painting Competition. In 2007, two of Arseven's designs were selected for the prestigious International Cow Parade competition. The artist also took part in the group exhibition "45 Works, 15 Artists" at Çekirdek Art Gallery and was accepted into Marvin Mattelson's "Classical Portrait Training" course at the School of Visual Arts in New York, United States.
During university, under the mentorship of Demet Sancak Topaloğlu, a student of the renowned artist Burhan Doğançay, Arseven developed her painting techniques and artistic expression. She also had the opportunity to meet with and discuss her work with prominent Turkish artists Ömer Uluç, Orhan Taylan, and Zerrin Tekindor. She further attended oil painting classes with Gülin Hayat Topdemir for one year.
After becoming a mother in 2016, Arseven devoted herself more deeply to artistic practice. During the pandemic period, she began studying botanical drawing and painting at the Klasik Türk Sanatları Vakfı and participated in several workshops focusing on botanical illustration. She illustrated a book dedicated to the olive tree. She later continued her education at the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanic Garden (NGBB) in Istanbul, where she completed advanced courses in botanical art, including Advanced Technical (Scientific) Drawing in Ink and Advanced Botanical Watercolor Painting.
Arseven's illustrations have appeared on the covers of Edebiyat Dergisi. She is regularly involved in the contemporary art scene in Istanbul, attending the Istanbul Comics and Art Festival (ICAF) and being represented by Oktowallz – Street Art Platform.
Her work reflects a synthesis of contemporary and modern artistic approaches, emphasizing the fragility and limitations of humanity in contrast to the immense and untamed power of nature. Having traveled extensively and experienced diverse cultures, Arseven integrates both Eastern and Western influences into her practice, always placing humanity at the center of the artistic narrative. For many years, she has continued to create and develop her work in a dedicated studio.
